Spring is a fantastic time to hit the roads with your motorcycle. However, to ensure that your ride is safe and efficient, you’ll first need to de-winterize your Indian Motorcycle® properly and optimize its performance. Don’t worry if you are unsure where to begin—our guide has you covered.

Read on to learn more about preparing your bike for spring riding, and for more information, swing by Sky Powersports Lakeland. You’ll find us in Lakeland, FL, where we happily welcome our patrons from Tampa and Orlando.

Wash Your Motorcycle

Give your bike a thorough wash when you take it out of storage. This will not only boost its aesthetic appeal, but it will also make sure that the dust and grime it accumulated during the winter doesn’t affect its performance.

When cleaning your motorcycle, be cautious of any critters that may have made your bike their home.

Check All Fluids

Next, you’ll want to check the fluids in your motorcycle to see they are clean and available in sufficient quantity. Top off any low levels and replace the oil that has turned dark and sludgy. If you notice any metallic flakes in it, you’ll want to consult an expert as this may indicate internal damage.

Recharge Battery

If you had removed your battery when winterizing your Indian® motorcycle, attach it back. However, if you had left it hooked up with your model, you’ll want to recharge it fully or replace it if it has died.

Examine Tires

More importantly, you’ll want to examine your tires’ health condition to make sure they are ready for your spring riding endeavor. Adjust the air pressure to your manufacturer’s recommendation and check the tread and sidewalls for any cracks or damage.

Test Brakes

Once you have performed the maintenance tasks mentioned above, you’ll want to take your motorcycle out for a low-speed brake test. This will help you make sure your bike’s braking system is responsive. However, if you feel any grinding or slipping, consult a technician before the problem gets worse.
