Side by sides, also known as UTVs or utility vehicles, are invaluable tools when it comes to both work and play. Unlike ATVs, side by sides have room for anywhere from two to six riders seated side by side as the name suggests. A side-by-side makes difficult work much easier with its increased payload, lower and more stable center of gravity, and space for multiple riders.

Here at Riva Motorsports, we know there are an overwhelming number of options and specifications to go through when searching for the ultimate UTV. That’s why we’ve put together this short list of tips for picking out a side by side UTV. If you have most questions or just want to browse our great selection of new and used powersport vehicles, visit our dealership in Miami, Florida. Our staff have the know-how to get you in the right UTV, whether it’s for a weekend off-roading adventure or a difficult job that needs doing.

Purpose of Purchase

To start your UTV search, determine how you’ll be using your side by side. While you’ll be able access the great utility and fun of your UTV no matter the model, some lines are specialized for certain tasks. If you’re looking for a workhorse that can haul a trailer or carry a significant load of material, you’ll want to focus on carrying capacity. This will likely mean compromising with other aspects, like number of passengers and some of the throttling power of a sportier design. On the other hand, if you want an off-road monster capable of conquering trails both hard and soft, focus on specifications that enhance performance and rideability. You’ll also have a chance to further specialize with a variety of upgrades and options like terrain-specific tires, closed-in or more open cab, and plenty of other components.

Budget, Components, and Warranty

Next up is determining the financials. Ask yourself how much you’re willing to spend and create a fixed budget. Some UTVs will have everything you need, but the price is just too high. Maybe that means a used model is in your future, or perhaps you need to scale back on upgrades and accessories. Whatever your budget, it’s important to arrive at a number that takes into account factors beyond the sticker price, such as fuel economy, upgrades, additional gear and equipment, repair and maintenance cost, and what kind of warranty your dealership offers. Compare and contrast models with differing packages to find something that’s right for you. But when you do compare different models, make sure you know what’s included in the price.

Manufacturer

Different brands and manufacturers offer vastly different products, and with more and more UTVs on the market now, some will inevitably fall short of expectations. If a non-traditional brand catches your eye, you’ll have to be even more cautious about research before investing your hard-earned money. Go over reviews of newer brands and models to make sure other buyers are happy with the aspects of the vehicle most important to you. If you can’t find any serious information about a brand, be cautious about moving forward and perhaps focus more on things like warranty and quality of dealership.

Dealerships and Available Service

Finding the right dealer can be a process in its own right. Fortunately Riva Motorsports Miami has you covered with the best UTVs and service around. Still, we believe in thoroughness, so we still recommend doing your research to find the right place to buy your UTV. An unauthorized seller might grant you a good deal, but the support offered up by individual sellers or less-than-reputable dealers can come up short. Like any vehicle, your UTV will require service and repair at some point down the road, so it’s good to have access to the support of service techs and professionals to help when things get rough.
